France McCloskey, joined Atlantykron 2013 from Upstate NY, to teach workshop in Cognitive Science through an interdisciplinary approach adding a dynamic window of perception in to the brain, how it works and why we should care. “I am very honored to participate and become a part of something that is unique and amazing as Atlantykron. It was more than a pleasure meeting the brilliant people who were involved by organizing, presenting and/or participating in the vast choices of activities. I truly believe there have been relationships I have made that will last for a lifetime. I will cherish the memories I have made, l the people I have met, while celebrating the view through the windows into the future,” said France.

The class was held daily with discussion, demonstrations, presentations and the opportunity to share what they were learning in the evening program with all the other students. The goals of the course was to inform, expand perception of how the human mind/brain is studied and inspire the group to explore for information with a critical eye, either through their own studies or research that has already been performed. In addition to the introduction of some of the concepts of Cognitive Science other skills were practiced. On a daily basis the participants practiced the skill of meta-cognition by becoming aware of their own learning and paying attention to what they knew, what they didn't understand and how they learned information best. The participants were given a study guide method for terms and concepts, and given examples of how to use the methods. Some of the student had the opportunity to apply their understanding and skills through speaking in the evening program and some for them, it was the very first time.

France stated, “Outside of the classes, many participants who couldn't attend all the of the classes due to a variety of other interests and commitments, initiated 1:1 conversations with the instructor in the areas of their individual interests of neuroscience, meta-cognition and artificial intelligence. The course has elicited an interest in extending the conversation outside of Atlantykron to continue on how to locate peer reviewed research and discussion in the areas of brain science, cognitive science, rehabilitative medicine and the world of disabilities. The course has been an incredible opportunity for expanded perceptions and growth for both the participants and instructor.”

“France is a dynamic instructor approaching ideas and concepts with things that are relevant with the students today and this creates a deeper level of learning. It was such a pleasure to have France at Atlantykron Academy this year and we know she had such positive impact with so many students,” said Heather Caton MSW, President and CEO of World Genesis Foundation.
